Rising from the ashes, White Rabbit has opened again in Charlotte, despite an arson fire that destroyed the store's former house in April The Charlotte White Rabbit was originally opened in late 1992 as the third in the three-store White Rabbit Chain. Owner, John Neal opened the first store in Greensboro over a decade ago, and a second in Raleigh in 1991. The chain specializes in gay and lesbian fiction and non-fiction with books on coming out, relationships, history, current events, HIV/AIDS, culture, politics and workplace issues-all from a gay/lesbian perspective. Neal says of the store's other stock: "We have never tried to be just a bookstore, but have tried to offer a wide range of gay-identified products to our customers. White Rabbit is a kind of Gay- (and lesbian) mart." The Charlotte White Rabbit is now located at 834 Central Avenue. The Greensboro store remains in its original location at 1833 Spring Garden Street. PRNGLE (Piedmont Religious Network for Gay and Lesbian Equality) is an organization including a diverse range of people-gay, bisexuals, heterosexuals, ministers, educators, psychologists, professionals, Roman Catholics, mainline protestants, Jews, evangelicals who share a common goal. Our goal is to work to make churches and communities of faith places where gay, lesbian and bisexual people of faith can become fully participating members. We strive to accomplish our goal in several ways: by being a public and clear voice prophetically calling churches to inclusion and reconciliation; by educating each other, the community and religious leaders about sexual orientation and spirituality; and by networking with both secular and religious organizations to foster solidarity, understanding and change in attitudes and practices. Anyone interested in more information about PRNGLE should contact Joe Foster at 722-8492 Power of One Celebrates Anniversary October 1995 marks the one-year anniversary of Power of One.
