ABOUT T.A.N.
TAN'S MISSION:
To be social and political advocates for the
lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered (LGBT)
community in the Greensboro, Winston-Salem,
and High Point area.
The Triad Advocacy Network (TAN) is a grass
roots political organization made up of individuals
who are concerned for the equality of all,
regardless of sexual orientation and is the voice of
the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered
community of the Triad.
TAN meets with local leaders, including the
Mayors of Winston-Salem and Greensboro, to
discuss issues of concern to the LGBT community,
in particular the need for protection against
discrimination based on sexual orientation.
TAN's "Political" committee sends questionaires to
all local candidates prior to each election and
provides voter information regarding how the
candidates stand on LGBT issues.
TAN's "Media" committee is active in monitoring
local newspapers, radio and television stations,
and has provided spokespersons to give accurate
information regarding issues involving the gay
community.
TAN has regular monthly meetings on the 4th
Monday of the month, and encourages anyone and
everyone interested to attend and to assist us in
our work.

WHAT TAN IS DOING
At the last TAN meeting, plans were made for very
important elections coming up this year. TAN will be
conducting voter registration drives, surveying candidates
on where they stand on LGBT issues, and publicizing the
information obtained. In addition, we will be seeking to
meet with local officials and candidates to discuss these
issues.
Committee Reports
The Voter Education and Registration committee met
during the monthly TAN meeting and discussed the plan
for the new candidate survey for the May 5th primaries.
The committee agreed to limit the number of questions to
only two, instead of the previous five. Question one will
deal with non-discrimination and the second will be about
domestic partnership. We hope to get these in the mail to
each candidate by February 6th.
Once the candidate survey is completed and distributed we
will begin our next project. We are planning on calling on
each of the current elected officials to introduce ourselves
and begin conversations about amending the city and
county non-discrimination policies to include sexual
orientation. This will be a hard task and we are hoping to
get the community more involved. The primary task that
each of you can do is to contact your city/county
representative and inform them of your opinions on the
issue. The more letters and phone calls they get, the better
our chances. Remember to vote in the primary on Tuesday,
May 5th! ~ Cliff Connell.
