Vol. 11 No. 12 December, 2004 Last chance to renew your membership before rates increase This is your last chance to renew your PFLAG membership before rates go up. PFLAG National is increasing the amount each chapter must submit to the national office for each chapter member. In order to maintain sufficient funds for our local chapter, we decided at our last meeting to increase dues beginning January 1, 2005. For single persons the rate will go up from $25 to $30; for family membership the increase will be from $35 to $50; and for students from $15 to $20. Renew before December 31 at the old rates: Individual membership $25 Household $35 Angel $100 or more Student/Low income $15 Make your check payable to Greensboro PFLAG and bring it to the next meeting or mail your check to Greensboro PFLAG, P.O. Box 4153, Greensboro NC 27404. Linda Stroupe asks to retire as chapter coordinator Linda Stroupe has asked to retire as official chapter coordinator. Linda has done an excellent job during the past several years, keeping the Greensboro PFLAG chapter running smoothly. She says she will continue to do outreach activities. Now we hope that one of our chapter members will agree to step up and fill Linda's shoes. QuiBford Green grant received Greensboro PFLAG has received a total of $2,500 from the Guilford Green Foundation. This includes $2,000 for leadership development and $500 for newsletter and publications. We are deeply grateful for the continued support from GGF. The Guilford Green Foundation raises money for many Greensboro area LGBT organizations, including GLASS, the support program for gay and lesbian youth, and GLSEN, which works to eliminate homophobia in schools, as well as PFLAG. We offer a safe, confidential space in which to explore our feelings and understandings about the gay experience, especially "coming out" and what this means to families and other loved ones. Listen and share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with, knowing that others can understand. Welcome especially to our returning members whose love is so healing. Local cable channel to focus on LGBT community Greensboro's public access TV channel, Cable Channel 8, is planning a month-long festival spotlighting the local LGBT community to be shown in February 2005. Each week two nationally distributed documentaries will be shown and different local groups will be highlighted Cable 8 has previously aired a panel discussion program featuring members of PFLAG (now on DVD if you missed it). Plans are to create several programs about the local community, including these local individuals and organizations: GLSEN, GLASS, local churches, David and Joan Parker, Triad Business and Professional Guild, PFLAG, and the Guilford Green Foundation. Documentaries to be shown include Week 1 - Focus on the Black Community "A Different Kind of Black Man" and "Tongues Untied" Week 2 - Focus on the Lesbian community "A Union in Wait" (recounting the struggle of Susan Parker and Wendy Scott to have their union ceremony in Wake Forest University's chapel) and "No Secret Anymore: The Times of Del Martin & Phyllis Lyon" Week 3 - Focus on Transgender issues and workplace issues "Just Call Me Kade" and "Out of Work" Week 4 - Focus on Coming Out 'Queer Son" and "Southern Family"
