If Parents. Families and Friend! of Lesbians and Gays GREEN8B0R8, W 6 Vol. 8 No. 2. PFLAG Regional Conference, March 9-11 There Will be a PFLAG regional conference over the weekend of March 9, 10 & 11 at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Greensboro PFLAG has fiinds from the Guilford Green Foundation grant to enable interested persons to attend - call Mac or Linda Stroupe if interested in attending. Conference organizers promise that the event will be affordable, worthwhile, and fun. WORKSHOPS: True to our theme of "sharing ideas"-"taking action" our workshops will focus on specific issues that are relevant to chapters regardless of size. We are committed to providing workshops that will give you concrete ideas that will help you develop a viable plan of action for your local community. Listed below are some of the workshops scheduled for this conference: "The Second Closet (AIDS & HIV)" "Building Bridges" "Support Groups" "The Importance Of Telling Your Story" "Genesis Women's Shelter" "Trangendered Issues" "Reconciling Congregations" "Making A Difference In Your Local Schools" "Working With The Media" We have planned a TOWN HALL meeting on Friday evening. Many well known figures from the GLBT community will answer your questions on issues such as politics, religion, and education as well as many other issues important to PFLAG. Also speaking will be the pastor of the Cathedral of Hope, the world's largest predominately GLBT church. Walt Whitman Community School, the only private GLBT high school in the country is a also located in Dallas. Faculty & students from this nationally known school will be participating in workshops & panels during our regional conference. Greensboro PFLAG February meeting Feb. 20, 7:30 p.m. Friendship Friends Meeting House 1103 New Garden Road FEBRUARY, 2001 welcome to pflag. We offer ;i snfe, confidential space in which to explore our feelings mid understandings about the gay experience, especially "coming out" and what this means to families and other loved ones, listen and share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with, knowing that others can understand. Welcome especially to our returning members whose love is so healing. QCC Meeting The Quarterly Co-ordinating Committee met on January 22 at the home of Mac and Linda Stroupe. It was agreed to use part of the remaining funds from the Guilford Green Foundation to purchase additional videos for our library. Funds will also be available to send representatives to the PFLAG conference in March. Advertisements have been placed in the High Point Enterprise, Triad Style, and the Peacemaker. The Rhinoceros Times has refused to accept advertising from PFLAG. Piedmont Friends for Lesbian and Gay Concerns meets Feb. 11 The Piedmont Friends for Lesbian and Gay Concerns (PFLGC) program for February 11, 2001, will consist of a panel on the subject of Gay and Lesbian Support Groups. The panelists are Robin Lester, Rachel Roberts and Houston Hall. Robin Lester is a board member of ART (Alternative Resources of the Triad) and active in PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) and other gay related groups. She will talk about ART and the large number of gay and lesbian groups in the community. Rachel Roberts is a board member of ART (Alternative Resources of the Triad) and active in PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) and other gay related groups. She will talk mainly about Lesbian Connections and Greensboro Gender Association, a support group for transgendered persons. Houston Hall is director of Christian Education at Congregational United Church of Christ. He is active in GLASS (Gay Lesbian Adolescent Support System), GLSEN (Gay , Lesbian, Straight Education Network). He will talk mainly about Common Ground and other gay men support groups.
