N O >/ \r Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays PO Box 49126 GREENSBORO, NC 27419 PHONE (910) 852-8489 Vol. 5 No.7, July, 1998 WERE INVITED TO PARTY!!! Is July getting just a little too hot for you? If so, join with the other three area PFLAGs at Shelby Nichol's home in the mountains for a July 18th 6:00 p.m. potluck and pool party. Shelby, who facilitates the Mt. Airy PFLAG, lives with her husband at 1451 Cadle Road, Mt. Airy. Her telephone number is (336) 320-2431. This year's entertainment will be a talent show. If you'd like to participate, bring your props and join in the fun. Or plan to be an appreciative audience. Don't forget your swim suit, towel, and favorite dish- Here are directions for getting to Roger and Shelby's house: (Allow at least an hour and a half.) Take 140 West to Winston and turn north onto Highway 52 to Mt. Airy. At the second stoplight in Mt. Airy, turn left onto US 601. Go about 3 miles and turn right onto Old Caudal Ford Road; if you miss it, continue to Caudal Ford Road, turning right. About a mile and a half after the two roads converge is the house on the left at the top of a hill. It is made of brick and has a circular drive. Because last year's party was such a pleasant success, this is beginning to look like an annual affair. Don't miss it! However, if you can't leave Greensboro on Saturday, July 18, plan to party with ART at the GSO Cultural Arts Center. During the last 10 years, Alternative Resources of the Triad has been a major resource in our community by such acts as providing the startup money for our PFLAG chapter and supporting the Gay and Lesbian Hotline. This organization is badly in need of operating funds, From 8:00 till 11:00 p.m.the party will offer food, beer or wine, music and a silent auction. You can enjoy a very pleasant evening and help ART by buying tax deductible tickets at $30 in advance or $35 at the door. For more information, call the hotline 855-8558 or our own Steven at 574-0426. MEETING 7:30 TUESDAY, JULY 21 FRIENDSHIP FRIENDS MEETING HOUSE 1103 NEW GARDEN ROAD, GREENSBORO Welcome to PFLAG. We offer a safe, confidential space in which to explore our feelings and understandings of the gay experience, especially "coming out" and what this means to families and other loved ones. Listen and share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with, knowing that others can understand. Welcome especially to our returning members whose love is so healing. We're on-line! Through our local source, Depot, Tom has made information available to those surfing the Web for our services. We owe Tom many thanks for his efforts in making this happen. Leave him a message at TomC1414@aol.com Our national office went on-line early. Their national web site (www.pflag.org) is the official source for information. The visitor to this site can send e-mail messages to specific PFLAG staff menbers or to a general mailbox and expect a prompt individual answer. —info from PFLAGpole Our Quarterly Advisory Committee decided in May to have an offering basket available at the end of each meeting. The reason for this decision was that we have not been able to meet our on-going expenses as we would like; for example, we have never paid rent to Friendship Friends on a regular basis, only a love gift once a year. We thought that a dollar per person would make a big difference in our budget. There would be no obligation, nor would we expect newcomers to contribute at their first meeting. At the June meeting $14 was collected. Great! If you have a concern about this practice, please talk with me or with our treasurer, Mac. We would never want to embarrass anyone Linda will be our facilitator this month. Please support her.
