Object Description
Title
[Letter
from
Pablo
Casals
to
Susan
Metcalfe
,
Marie-Theresiapolis
(Subotica)]
Date
1914-02-24
Creator
Casals, Pablo, 1876-1973
Subject headings
Casals, Pablo, 1876-1973
Description
Casals
has
received
Metcalfe's
letters
of the
6th
and the
10th
.
Despite
his
efforts
to
remain
calm
, he
feels
unable
to
continue
in his
state
of
anxiety
,
though
he
realizes
that
it
is
selfish
and
weak
of him to
confide
this to her.
Still
, she has
asked
that he
tell
her
everything
. The
day
before
,
after
spending
the
night
on a
train
en
route
to
Budapest
, he
felt
so
ill
that he
went
with a
friend
to a
doctor
and
told
him how
exhausted
he was. The
doctor
complimented
him on his
sturdy
constitution
, but
warned
him that he should
take
steps
to
avoid
a
possible
nervous
breakdown
, and
suggested
taking
some
time
off
from his
concert
schedule
.
All
doctors
recommend
a
lazy
life
,
which
is
dangerous
as he
is
easily
tempted
to
laziness
.
Still
, he will not
give
up
the
concerts
remaining
on his
present
tour
. He
expects
he will
recover
when
he
sees
Metcalfe
.
