When Ibe honorable court was ready to hear ihccase, the clerk called Jerry Gutt-ridge, «nd bade him hearken to an in-dictment found against him, by the grand inqucsl for the district of Maine, now tolling at Saco, in Ibe following words: ' We present Jerry Guttridge for an idle person, nnd not providing for his fa-mily ; and giving roproacbful language lo Mr. Nat. Kiicr, when he reproved him for his idleness. Jerry Guttridge, what say you lo Ibis indictment? Are you guilty thereof, or not guilty ?' 'Not guilly', said Jerry ; 'and here's my wife can tell you the same, any day. Sally, haven't I always provided lor my family?'
