Masters of the fiddle and the bow from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee will gather in Greensboro for an old-time fiddlers' contest on Saturday, June 5. A long list of prizes has been arranged. The committee in charge also announces that United States Senator "Bob" Taylor, of Tennessee, is expected, and before the contest he will deliver his famous lecture. "The Fiddle and the How." The exercises will be held in the auditorium under auspices of the Chamber of Commerce. news* of his death the following day came as a distinct shock to the com-munity. Although he had been feeling bad-ly for several days, Dr. Grimsley con-tinued to call upon his patiouts until Wednesday at noon, when he was forced to go to bed. Brother physi-cians called on him during the after-noon, and an examination disclosed the fact that Dr, Gjtau£ar was sut-uring from blood poisoning. His condition continued to grow more serious, and Thursday Dr. J. E. Stokes, of Salisbury, and Dr.Stewart McGuire, of Richmond, were called in consultation. Friday ni-.ht Dr. Grims-ley was removed to the hospital, where an operattion was peiformed in the desperate hope of saving the patient's life. Dr. Grinis ey rallied from the opera;ion, and for a few hours the slight hope was entertain-ed that h^ would recover, but befoie noon Saturday it was seen Hint the end was only a question of lime. Dr. Grimsley died as he had lived—calm-ly and unafraid. Dr. Grimsley had resided In Greens boro a little over six years, moving to this city from Greene county in January. 1903. He quickly establish-ed himself in the community, and without te.nin; effort on his part, made fast friends of all wi h whom he came ln contact. Soon after com-ing to Greensboro he formed a part-nership for the practice of medl.lr.e with Dr. Edmund Harrison No man stood higher in the ranks of the med-ical profession and no physician in Greens'oro was held In higher es-teem by his patients and friends thau was Dr. Grimsley. Dr. Grimsley was born in Greens county in 1859 and was a son of the late Dr. William E. Grimsley, a well known physician and plante.-. Afler receiving his education and being li-censed as a pliysiian. he located at Snow Hill, where he built up a large and lucrative pra;tlce and where he r sided until his removal to Greens boro. He was married to Miss Annie Laurie McDou^al, o" Greene county, who survives him. together with four daughters and two sons. In add Con, he Is survived by the following broth-ers and sisters: Messrs. John D. and William E. Grimsley, of Greene CO n-1 ty; Mr. George A. Grimsley. of this city; Mrs. T. L. Booth, of Oxford; Mrs. C. C. Taylor and Misses Stella and Alice Grimsley. of this city. The funeral was held from the First Presbyteian church Monday af-ternoon at 1 o'clock, the service be-ing conducted by Rev. Thomas G. Faulkner, rector o' St. Barnabas Episcopal church, pastor of the de-ceased, assisted by Rev. Melton Clark, of the Fist Pres' yterian church. The floral of-ferings were among th:- most numer-ous and beautiful ever seen here. F. Dalton, E. J. Justice, R. J. Mebane, J. E. Latham, W. B. Harrison and U'eldon Schenck. Tha physicians and drug-gists of the city, th? Masons, the Elks and the Knights of Pythias, of which orders the deceased was a member, formed an honorary es:ort. orary escort. During the funeral hour the drug stores of tha city were closed out of respect to the memory of Dr. Grims-ley. Mt. Airy Breeze: The rural route Inspectors are still after the roads, and unless something is done very quickly radical changes will be made in the routes. They take' the position that this indifference about the roads Shows conclusively that the people do not appreciate the mall service, anil therefore unless there is some sign of interest displayed within the next thirty days many parts of the routes will be discontinued altogether. There have been two inspectors here for the laft ten days investigating the condi-tion of the roads and this is their de-cision. The government will not re-quire the carriers to continue the ser-vice when the roads are in such a de-plorable- condition. Negro Cook Loses He-- Life In tempting to Mart Firo. The victim of the flames was Nel ie Graves, colored, the family cook, who Jost her life through her carel ss-ness In attempting to start a fire in th<* kitchin stove with kerosene. In beginning preparations for the midday meal the cook resorted i<> the ass.stance of a fi.-e gallon can of kerosone to start a fire. As she was pouring a portion of the contents of the can into the kitchen s ove the oil ignited, and Immediately there was a terrific explos'o.i. Membeisof the famiy who h 'ard the noise and rushed to the kitchen found the room filled with sroke and the woman en-veloped in flames. An alarm was turned in immedi-ately, and while the firemen worked to save the property from destruc-tion two physicians worked to save the burned woman's life. It was re-alised from the first that the wo-man's injuries were fatal, and death tensued after a few houis of intense suffering. The woman was fearfully burned, the flesh peeling off from dif-ferent parts of the body. By vigilant work the firemen man-aged to confine the fire to the kitch-en, though for a time it seamed that the entire residence would be de-stroyed. The loss amounts lo about 1.000 and is partially covered byin- It is rumored here that Mr. A. E. Holton, of Winston-Salem, United States district attorney for the west-ern district of North Carolina, who Is said to be slated for decapitation at the hands of the Taft administra-tion, aspires to be the Republican candidate for Congress in the Fifth army and "will lo- | district next year, provided Congress-man Morehead sticks to his determi-nation not to stand for re-nomina-tion. Mr. Holton Is not without ex-perience as a candidate for Congress, having been the Republican candidate against Hon. John S. Stickley closed his year's pastoral work at St. Paul's E.anelical Lutheran church, in Ala-mance county, last Sunday and will close at Lows chur< h. in eastern Gu Iford. next Sunday.
