Alphouso Smith, whom Greensboro claims as oue of her own, has recently been adopted by the state of Louisiana after a spirited contest that simply added force to the compliment bestow-ed on the author. Mr. J. E. Hoskius, who is in charge of a state logging camp near Warsaw, Duplin county, came up last week on a short visit. His wife, who has been visitiug ftieuds at Pomona for several weeks, will make her home at the old Hoskius homestead near the Battle Ground this summer. Large congregations are participat-ing in a revival at West Market church this week. Dr. Detwiler's sermons of late have been leading up to this meet-ing and his people are earnest iu their desire for a revival and deeper conse-cration. The meetings will continue as long as the interest justifies. Rev. J. C. C'lapp, I). I)., of Newton, will be here next week to assist in a series of revival ineetiugs at the First Reformed church, on West Lee street. He will preach each night during the week anil will undoubtedly be heard by congregations that will tax the ca-pacity of the new church structure. GREENSBORO LOSES A NOBLE CITIZEN. H. L. Fry Dies From Injuries Re-ceived at High Point Last Month. Almost without warning the Illness of Capt. Henry Lewis Fry, resulting from injuries received in a railroad ac-cident at High Poiut scarcely a month ago, terminated fatally last Saturday afternoon at half past 8 o'clock. It will be recalled that Capt. Fry had a leg aud two ribs broken in an attempt to board a moving train, and while Hie accident was considered serious, iu view of possible internal complica-tions, he seemed to rally and was ap-parently getting along nicely until Saturday afternoon, when he began sinking rapidly aud iu a few hours was dead. Capt. Fry was a represen-tative of the highest type of manhood and occupied an exalted place iu the esteem of his fellowmeu. He was a native of Virginia, aud his career as a railroad man had been marked by a success that was merited by ability of a high oider. As a civil eugiueer he helped develop the great Chesapeake & Ohio Bailroad. Later he held high positions with the C. F. & V. aud At-lantic Coast Liue Uailroads, until a few years ago, when he went with the Southern, where his promotion was . GREENSBORO TOBACCO PIARKET. WWW MARKET REPORT. The receipts ou our market for the past week have beeu the lightest for -everal weeks owing to the open weather and everything being favor-able for farm operations. The quality of the tobacco has been about in keepiug with past I sales and prices remain unchanged to a shade better than they were last i Week. "Our Language Grammar," a com-prehensive
text-book prepared by Dr.
C. Alphouso Smith, whom Greensboro
claims as oue of her own, has recently
been adopted by the state of Louisiana
after a spirited contest that simply
added force to the compliment bestow-ed
on the author.
Mr. J. E. Hoskius, who is in charge
of a state logging camp near Warsaw,
Duplin county, came up last week on
a short visit. His wife, who has been
visitiug ftieuds at Pomona for several
weeks, will make her home at the old
Hoskius homestead near the Battle
Ground this summer.
Large congregations are participat-ing
in a revival at West Market church
this week. Dr. Detwiler's sermons of
late have been leading up to this meet-ing
and his people are earnest iu their
desire for a revival and deeper conse-cration.
The meetings will continue
as long as the interest justifies.
Rev. J. C. C'lapp, I). I)., of Newton,
will be here next week to assist in a
series of revival ineetiugs at the First
Reformed church, on West Lee street.
He will preach each night during the
week anil will undoubtedly be heard
by congregations that will tax the ca-pacity
of the new church structure.

Capt. H. L. Fry Dies From Injuries Re-ceived
at High Point Last Month.
Almost without warning the Illness
of Capt. Henry Lewis Fry, resulting
from injuries received in a railroad ac-cident
at High Poiut scarcely a month
ago, terminated fatally last Saturday
afternoon at half past 8 o'clock. It
will be recalled that Capt. Fry had a
leg aud two ribs broken in an attempt
to board a moving train, and while
Hie accident was considered serious, iu
view of possible internal complica-tions,
he seemed to rally and was ap-parently
getting along nicely until
Saturday afternoon, when he began
sinking rapidly aud iu a few hours
was dead. Capt. Fry was a represen-tative
of the highest type of manhood
and occupied an exalted place iu the
esteem of his fellowmeu. He was a
native of Virginia, aud his career as a
railroad man had been marked by a
success that was merited by ability of
a high oider. As a civil eugiueer he
helped develop the great Chesapeake
& Ohio Bailroad. Later he held high
positions with the C. F. & V. aud At-lantic
Coast Liue Uailroads, until a few
years ago, when he went with the
Southern, where his promotion was .

The receipts ou our market for the
past week have beeu the lightest for

weather and everything being favor-able

has been about in keepiug with past I
sales and prices remain unchanged to

to pay a little bit more for it, but it

farmers to market the remainder of
