Greensboro is still so busy celebrating "ground hog day" that little considera-tion can be given George Washington today. It gives us pleasure, however, to assure our readers that no one has yet appeared to dispute the assertion that George was "First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen." Several citizens of Sumner township were before Squire Collins last Satui-day on a charge of retailing liquor, but the hearing was postponed until March 8th because of the absence of material witnesses. The parties In-volved are Newt Causey and wife, Shube Waldon, Jim Richmand and wife and their two sous, and Tom Feurington and two sons. Mr. Joseph H. I'oates, of Baltimore, Teachers' Assembly to Meet Here. The committee appointed to select a meeting pla"e for the uext annual ses-sion of the North Carolina Teachers' Assembly met at The Ben bow Satur-day night aud selected Greensboro as the meeting place. The assembly will meet Tuesday, June IS, aud continue through the remainder of the week. The names of those who compose the committee are Prof. J. I. Foust, of the faculty of the State Normal and Indus-trial College, president of the Teachers' Assembly; Prof. W. D. Carmichael, of Durham, secretary aud treasurer of the assembly; Dr. Aben Alexander, of the faculty of the State I'niversity; Dr. W. T. Whitsett, president of Whitsett In-stitute. The receipts ou our market for the past week have again been light owing to the extreme b«d weather which has prevailed throughout the entire week, however, we have had a great deal more tobacco than one would sup|x>se we would have had cousideriug the weather, aud those farmers who have made it a point to come to market have been very handsomely repaid for the extra trouble aud hardships they had to go through to get here with | their tobacco, for prices ou all grades have beeu fully as good, if not better, for the past week than they have for any week dunug the present season. We have not seen such satisfaction among the farmers for a loug time, all of them are going home well pleased aud lots of them are highly delighted with the sales they are making on our market at present. Our buyers are very much iu want of tobacco and are willing to pay outside market prices to secure it, and we feel that now is the best time you will have to sell the re-mainder of your crop.
