Kendall, editor of [The Clay County Times, of Green Cove (Springs, Fla., arrived in the city Sat- , urday night on a visit. He will return tonight, accompanied by his wife, who has been spending some time here with her parents. —Mr. \ddison T. Smith, of Wash-ington, I>. C, spent a portion of last I week with Mr. J. B. Taylor's family at ■ Guilford College. Mr. Smith is clerk to the Senate commiitee on Terrilor- \ ies, and is an exceptionally clever and intelligent gentleman. —Mr. J. Van Lindley, who knows how to farm us well as run a nursery, threshed his crop of oats last week, reaping 1,004 bushels from sixty acres. Fourteen horses had been fed from ; this Held for a month prior to thresh-ing, or the yield would have been greater. —There are in this city two firms with suggestive names occupying ad-joining stores. The name of one is Silver, while the other's sign sears the name of Golden. We are not informed that any parity is maintained between the two firms or that they are vexed by the question of ratio. —Mrs. Iiettie Stewart returned Sat-urday from an extended visit to her son and other relatives at Cades, Tenn. On her return she spent some time with her son in Charlotte, Mr. J. E. Stewart. She will reside in the future with her youngest son, Mr. Marshall C. Stewart, of this city. —Mr. G. C. Smith left Monday for Richmond, Va., where he has accepted a position as train dispatcher for the Atlantic Coast Line railroad. For several years he was one of the dis-patchers for the C. F. & Y. V. at this place and is a capable and popular young man. His family will remain in Greensboro for the present. —Prof. W. T. Whitsett has accepted an invitation from the Bethel Presby-terian Sunday school, near McLeans-ville, to deliver bis excellent address. "How We Got Our Bible," at that church on next Sunday at 11 o'clock a. m. Prof. Whitsett is a fine speaker, aid a treat is in store for every one who hears him on this occasion. All are cerdially invited. —In speaking of our recent bond election, carried by a practically unan-imous vote, an Indiana paper says Greensboro goes on record as the most advanced tewn in America in the mat-ter of municipal ownership.
