We held this issue of the PATRIOT back one day hoping to give our read-ers tbe text of the President's message, which was expected to be sent to Con-gress yesterday, but the message seems to have gotten lost in the shuille, and did not appear. The reason is rather vaguely given in the press dispatches from Washington, appearing on an-other page. We have about reached the conclusion that there will be no war and will wash off our war paint as soon as we get this issue out of the way. That De Lome letter keeps com-ing into mind. The *35,000,000already spent in war preparations can now be made up by the tax-payers and then the incident will be dropped until the next campaign. • . ♦- __ Mr. S- B. Norris Goes to Greensboro. The Raleigh Press-Visitor of Mon-day said: Mr. S. B. Norris has pur-chased the shoe store of Sample S. Brown, of Greensboro, and will take charge of the business at once and will conduct one of the most extensive and attractive shoe stores in the State in that progressive town. Mr. Norris will leave tonight for Greensboro to take charge of the business, take an in-ventory and prepare to open the new date. Mr. Norris is one of Raleigh's most successful and progressive busi-ness men, and while we regret to lose him we congratulate Greensboro upon securing him as a part of her business commuuity. He is a thoroughly live and up-to-date hustler, and (Greens-boro may depend upon it that his es-tablishment will be conducted in the best of style and will cohtain nothing but the latest and best. Mr. Norris' family will remain in Raleigh until he makes arrangements for them to make their home in Greensboro. After years of untold suffering from piles, B. W. The work is now nearly compieced and the church is to be formally opened on next Sunday. A sermon at 11 o'clock will be preached by Rev. E. E. Hoss, D.D., of Nashville, Tenn., and an elaborate Sunday-schoo1 Easter service will be held. West Market is, in our judgment, the most elegant church edifice in North Caroli-na and the congregation deserves the highest commendation for its exceed-ing liberality in erecting it. It is a credit to the city and an honor to the city and an honor to the denomination. Rev. J. H. Weaver, D. They Appreciate Their Pastor. Rev. J. McL. Seabrook is pastor of Bethel, Buffalo and Midway churches, preaching at the two lirst named twice a month in the morning and at Mid-way twice a month in the evening and on the tifth Sundays in the morning. Last Thursday it was learned by some of the Buffalo people that Midway had been compelled to reduce her subscrip-tion to tbe pastor's salary $L'J, which was agreed to by Mr. Seabrook pro-vided they would release him from the fifth Sunday, which they agreed to do. It was intimated to some ol the Buffalo people that their pastor would like to give these fifth Sundays to one or both of the other churches, whereupon Buf-falo went to work to raise the $25 lost by Midway and get the fifth Sundays. Last Sunday the pastor being absent Rev. W. L. Grissom, of the M. E. Church, South, filled the pulpit at Buf-falo, preaching, we learned, one of his splendid sermons to a large and appre-ciative congregation, alter which a a congregational meeting was held and .after the matter was laid befor; the congregation it was decided to try and raise the $26. A subscription was taken up and the rcsu't was over $31 was promptly subscribed. This speaks well for pastor and people. Mr. W. B. farrar's Death. Mr. William B. Farrar, one of the best known citizens of thle city, died Monday afternoon about six o'clock after a lingering illness. His death was a source of sorrowful surprise to our people, because it was not general-ly known at the time that his condi-tion was critical. He was born in Chatham county February 11th, 1836, and was married in WJ4 to Miss Mattie Watson, daughter of the late Dr. David Watson. The devoted wife and two children—Mrs. G. H. Royster and Mr. M. R. Farrar—survive. In 1868 Mr. Farrar located in Greensboro.engaging in the jewelry business, in which he was quite successful. In addition to his mechanical skill he had an inven-tive turn of mind, ami in recent years produced several useful and ingenious appliances that brought him handsome returns. He was a man of decided opinions on all questions and was. un-usually well informed on current topic-. Some time ago he embraced the Chris-tian religion, snd he died with a full-ness of faiththat striking. IDs funeral took place yesterday afternoon from the West Market Street M. E. church, the pastor. Rev. Dr. Weaver, conduct-ing the-ervice. Interment was made at Greene Hill cemetery. Mr. Farrart death removes from among our people a man well worthy tbe general esteem in which he was held. His bereaved family has the sy.np.ithv of everyone in their great loss. Just Received! Tbe nicest lot of Seed Irish Potatoes that we have seeii this year. The War is Over.
We held this issue of the PATRIOT
back one day hoping to give our read-ers
tbe text of the President's message,
which was expected to be sent to Con-gress
yesterday, but the message seems
to have gotten lost in the shuille, and
did not appear. The reason is rather
vaguely given in the press dispatches
from Washington, appearing on an-other
page. We have about reached
the conclusion that there will be no
war and will wash off our war paint as
soon as we get this issue out of the
way. That De Lome letter keeps com-ing
into mind. The *35,000,000already
spent in war preparations can now be
made up by the tax-payers and then
the incident will be dropped until the
next campaign.

Mr. S- B. Norris Goes to Greensboro.
The Raleigh Press-Visitor of Mon-day
said: Mr. S. B. Norris has pur-chased
the shoe store of Sample S.
Brown, of Greensboro, and will take
charge of the business at once and will
conduct one of the most extensive and
attractive shoe stores in the State in
that progressive town. Mr. Norris
will leave tonight for Greensboro to
take charge of the business, take an in-ventory
and prepare to open the new
date. Mr. Norris is one of Raleigh's
most successful and progressive busi-ness
men, and while we regret to lose
him we congratulate Greensboro upon
securing him as a part of her business
commuuity. He is a thoroughly live
and up-to-date hustler, and (Greens-boro
may depend upon it that his es-tablishment
will be conducted in the
best of style and will cohtain nothing
but the latest and best. Mr. Norris'
family will remain in Raleigh until he
makes arrangements for them to make
their home in Greensboro.

—Christian Advocate : The congrega-tion
of West Market Street Methodist
Church, Greensboro, has been for some
time worshipping in the auditorium of
the new church, though in an undn-lshed
condition. The work is now
nearly compieced and the church is to
be formally opened on next Sunday. A
sermon at 11 o'clock will be preached
by Rev. E. E. Hoss, D.D., of Nashville,
Tenn., and an elaborate Sunday-schoo1
Easter service will be held. West
Market is, in our judgment, the most
elegant church edifice in North Caroli-na
and the congregation deserves the
highest commendation for its exceed-ing
liberality in erecting it. It is a
credit to the city and an honor to the
city and an honor to the denomination.
