Die twenty-first meeting of the Pharmacy Committee of The Moses H. Cone
Memorial Hospital was held this date in the Hospital Cafeteria at 1:00 P.M.
Members present were Dr. Leonard J, Rabold, Chairman, Dr, Marvin S.McCrae,
Dr. John K. Wilson, Miss Helen Voigt and Mr. Claude U. Paoloni.
The. minutes of the meeting of 11 December 195>6 were approved and adopted
as read.
The Pharmacy Committee then considered the matter deferred in meeting of
11 December 1956 concerning the polios'- of patients not permitted to bring
medicine with them into the Hospital or to personally receive medicine
from outside at anytime. After some discussion it was
AGREED: to)\cnange (Section 9 of the Rules and Regulations covering the use
of medications in the Hospital as shown on Page III of the Formulary,

Tt RECOMMEND to the Medical Board the following replacement: ^j^J^\f'

"On instruction from physician a patient will be
permitted to bring to the Hospital for continued
use any unusual or expensive medicine prescribed
prior to admission; providing, however, such
medicine is turned over to Nursing Staff for administration as prescribed on individual patient?s
order sheet."
In consideration of Pharmacy's part in "Disaster" preparedness the Committee then reviewed a list of drugs presented by the Secretary which
were termed "Critical" items and recommended adequate stock of each he
maintained in the Pharmacy. No attempt was made to define adequate stock.
This to be in keeping with recommendations of Disaster Committee, The
following list of critical items are believed to be necessary for meeting
most emergencies in time of disaster,

Ether for Anesthesia
Thiamytal Sodium (Surital)
Nitrous Oxide U.S.P.
Procaine HC1 Injection ., 1%, 2%,
Succinylcholine Chloride Inj. $0 mg./cc. - 10 cc. amp.
