Meeting of the Pharmacy Committee

The twentieth meeting of the Pharmacy Committee of The Moses H. Cone
Memorial Hospital was held this date in the Conference Dining Room
at 1:20 P.M. Members present were Dr. Leonard J. Rabold, Dr. Marvin E.
McCrae, Miss Helen Voigt and Mr. Claude U. Paoloni.
The minutes of the meeting of 27 December 19$$ were approved and
adopted as read.
During the reading of the minutes a brief discussion evolved around
paragraph (2), under the heading of Agreed, page 8$ concerning policy
which states that patients will not be permitted to bring medicine with
them into the Hospital or to personally receive medicine from outside
at any time. It was agreed to consider this matter later.
Pursuant to a letter from the Resident Staff Committee dated Nov. 1$, 1956
consideration was given to the subject of Internes dispensing sample
medication from their personal supply to indigent, or welfare, patients
examined in the Emergency Room. The recommendation of the Pharmacy Committee is expressed by a letter dated Dec. 31, 1956 to Resident Staff
Committee. (Copy of letter follows page 90 of the minutes.)
Consideration was then given to a list of drugs, whether to admit or
not admit into the formulary.
APPROVED: (1) To admit into the formulary the following therapeutic
agents:
ACETH, P-AMIN0PHEN0L SIRUP ... 120 mg./5 cc.
(N-Acetyl P-Aminophenol,
p-Acetamidophenol, Tylenol)
/ASPIRIN TABLETS, BUFFERED, C.H.F.
Each tablet contains
Acetylsalicylic Acid ... 0.3 Gm. with Aluminum
Hydroxide, Aminoacetic
Acid (Glycine) jk**S and
Magnesium Carbonate
AZACYCLONAL HC1. #
(Frenquel) Injection ... 5 mg./cc. - 20 ccc. amp.
Tablets ... 20 mg.
# In the case of Azacyclonal (Frenquel) HC1 Injection
the Secretary, upon recommendation of the Committee, sought
the opinion of Dr. Robert L. Garrard by telephone. Dr. Garrard
