MEDITATIONS Greensboro Branch, Auxiliary to the Guilford County Medical Society No. 3 November,1^69 NOVEMBER MEETING Date: November 18 Time: 11:1+5 Place: Carriage House Mr. Jack Berkman, a local artist and teacher at Downtown Guilford College and Greensboro Arts and Crafts, will be our guest speaker. His topic will be "An Artist Looks At Art History." Mr. Berkman will draw while he talks. His accomplishments include a listing in Who's Who in American Art, twenty three one-man shows, and several first prizes in the south and southwest. Several of his paintings hang in public and private collections. GIFTS FOR BUTNER Don't forget to bring to the November meeting two wrapped gifts, labeled as to whether suitable for a man or woman. Include size if necessary. Of course, no sharp or potentially dangerous items will be acceptable. Suggestions for gift giving: scarves, toilet articles, stationery, gloves, socks, stockings. Marianne Hertle will be calling on some of us for extra help with the December Christmas party at Butner. Please don't say no! DUES REMINDER Please! If you have not already done so, please mail your dues promptly to Marian Whitener. We have many obligations to fulfill and Marian reports that we are running considerably behind last year's collections at this time. AMA-ERF REMINDER Please send your contributions for the Christmas card (proceeds go to medical schools, medical students, and research) to Mrs. H. S. Wainer, 201+ Mistletoe Drive, Greensboro, 271+03. These cards will be sent to all Greensboro doctors and their wives, with names of contributors inserted. Deadline is December 1st. Make check payable to AMA-ERF Auxiliary Fund. CLOTHING DESPERATELY NEEDED Betty McCracken, Community Services Chairman, reports that there is still an urgent need for clothing for the day care centers, sizes 3 through 10. Outgrown but not worn out shoes can be used also. Please call Betty if you have anything suitable. OPERATION DAMN Jean Spangler reports that there are thirty- eight teacher-students attending a special drug abuse course entitled "Mental Health in the Classroom," which began on November third. We should be most encouraged at the enthusiastic response to this course which we hope will be the first of several to be offered. Members of the auxiliary agreed to provide refreshments for the teachers during the fifteen minute break in each three hour session. Important date to remember: November 18, 7:30 p.m. WSJS television, Channel 12. A special program on drug abuse. Be sure to tune in. This is a continuation of our effort in public education on drug abuse. A special vote of thanks should be given to Jean Spangler for her work in this program. MOBILE MEALS Anyone interested in helping with the mobile meals program, sponsored by the Council of Jewish Women? Hot meals are being delivered five days per week to aging and home-bound persons in the Greensboro area. Volunteers are needed to help with the delivery of food to these people who are unable to prepare their own food and who have no nne to help them. If you cannot drive, there may be other contributions you can make. Call 273-3691 and ask for the Council on Aging or the Volunteer Bureau for additional information.
