MEDITATIONS BULLETIN # 6 MARCH, 1?69 AUXILIARY TO THE GUILFORD COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY OF GREENSBORO BRANCH MARCH MEETING Date: Tuesday, March 18 Time: 11:1*5 - Carriage House Lt. John Faircloth of the Police Department and Dr. Ned Bryan will be our speakers for the March meeting. The Drug Abuse Program and our part in this program will be the topic of discussion. This is of vital interest to all of us. Let's have a good turnout to welcome our state president, Mrs. John L. McCain, who will be visiting with us for this meeting, along with the president elect, the health chairman and the district counselor, Mrs. McNeill. WRITE YOUR SENATORS!1 Elton Edwards Coolidge Morrow Hargrove Bowles Concerning Senate Bill 135? "Practical Nurse Examinations". Urge them to oppose passage of this bill. An official request for public hearing on this bill has been filed. A condensed version of reasons for opposition follows: 1. Partial completion of an R.N. program is not equivalent to completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. 2. Requirements for licensure of the LPN and the R.N. are consistent and impartial. 3. "Drop outs" from R.N. schools do so for many and varied reasons. Not the least of these reasons is the academic inability to progress into the third year. 1*. The passage of this amendment would create a double standard for eligibility to write the Practical Nursing examination. DOCTOR'S DAY Our thanks to all who had a hand in making Doctor's Day such a success. We had a splendid turnout and a good time was had by all. Five gold stars to Fran Lake who was chairman! CLOTHING FOR BUTNER All types of adult clothing is needed for the patients at Butner. Call Dottie Rogers if you have any that would be suitable. Volunteers are still needed to help with the monthly parties at Butner. If you are unable to make the trip, perhaps you could help out by baking some cupcakes. Call Marion Hertel. FORUM ON THE EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED CHILD On Tuesday, March 25th, your State Auxiliary is cooperating with other interested groups in their sponsorship of a state-wide public forum on "The Emotionally Disturbed Child in North Carolina." The one day forum, to be held at the Sheration-Sir Walter Hotel in Raleigh, will begin at 9=30 a.m. and conclude with an afternoon reception. The forum will focus on services presently available to the more than 50,000 emotionally disturbed children in N.C. with the hope of emphasizing the acute need for further and more comprehensive services. Luncheon will be held at the Velvet Cloak Motor Hotel and Mrs. Robert Scott has invited all forum guests to a tour of the Executive Mansion. Call Jean Spangler for additional information if you feel that you can attend this most interesting forum. CONGRATULATIONS To Joe and Nancy Stiefel on the birth of their third child and first daughter, Lucy! NEW ADDRESS Mrs. John Lyday 2811; St. Regis Drive Your editors: Jane Smith Elizabeth Ray 27U-7583 275-80U3
