MEDITATIONS January, 1969 No. 1* JANUARY MEETING An Arts and Crafts Festival will be on the program for January. Come for a real fun meeting at Starmount Presbyterian Church at 10:00 on January 21. The Auxiliary will be the guest of our president and presidentelect, Jean Spangler and Ceil Sue, for coffee with the new members serving as hostesses. At this time we will browse through the displays made by physicians, auxiliary members and their children. We would like to have as many things from as many different people as possible. Want to know what's suitable? Read on: Needlework:knitting, crocheting, crewel and other types of embroidery, quilting, cross stitch, needlepoint, stuffed toys and bean bags, pin cushions, etc. Painting: Portraits, country painting, bronze stenciling, any hand-painted or hand- decorated article Decoupage: any kind of article Sculpture and Carving: Metal and other sculpture; wood, soap or other kinds of carving.. Decorations: for Christmas and other holidays Decorated objects: Things which have had their appearance enhanced by your decorations or which have been made suitable for a use other than that for which they were originally intended-such as purses made from lunch boxes or baskets, dime store waste- baskets decorated to match your color scheme trimmed matchboxes—or what have youl If you have any questions please feel free to call Jo Stafford at 292-3921*. All articles for display should be brought to Jo Stafford's home, 101* kemp Road East, by Monday night, Jan. 20. For the convenience of those who live on the other side of town, Nancy Courts has volunteered to take all articles brought to her house, 1210 Hill St., by early Monday afternoon. After you've sipped coffee and browsed, we will hold our regular business meeting, any extremely important one, so please make plans to stay for that. The business meeting will begin at 11:00 PACKAGES FOR UMSTEAD We owe a vote of thanks to Ellen Marks, who wrapped approximately 300 packages for the patients at Umstead. Each patient in the Guilford County Unit received at least two gifts which were greatly appreciated. Thanks to Ellen and all those who contributed. CHRISTMAS CARD PROJECT Our Christmas card project for the benefit of AMAERF netted $666 from fifty contributors. The Board was very pleased with the success of this project and pleased to be able to contribute to this worthy cause. Thanks go to Betty Jane Buie for designing our card. KNOW WHAT YOUR AUXILIARY IS PRESENTING We have planned a program on our drug abuse information project which will be presented to the membership on February 18 (our regular meeting day) at 10a.m. in the Cranford Room of Wesley Long Hospital School of Nursing Building. There will be a film and panel discussion. Please plan to come so that you will be able to tell others about this Auxiliary-sponsored project. There will be no luncheon held at this meeting^ YOUR DUES ARE DUE' In fact, past due. If you have not already done so, we urge you to pay them promptly. Also, please study the enclosed sheet so that you will be prepared for discussion and voting on this issue at the January meeting. DOCTORS' DAY Doctors' Day, the annual February event at which we honor our husbands, will be held the evening of February 27. Fran Lake, Doctors' Day chairman, has engaged the Elks Club. There will be a buffet dinner and program for your entertainment. Please plan to come, since this is the only event during the year in which the husbands are included. There will be a $5.50 per person charge. LEGISLATURE DAY A day for the Medical Auxiliary to go to Raleigh to visit the legislature has been set for March 6, Thursday, because of the great success of this program last year. The program will include meetings with individual legislators, observing meetings of the Senate and House, a luncheon at the Carolina Country Club. If you are interested, keep this in mind for March.
