BULLETIN # 5 GUILFORD COUNTY MEDICAL AUXILIARY FEBRUARY 1966 GREENSBORO BRANCH MENTAL HEALTH The Guilford Unit of the John Unstead Hospital is in desperate need of many items which are listed below. Won't you please save this list and see if you have anything you can donate to our unit. Our unit is the least supported of any unit at Umstead and this is indeed a shameful fact for the citizens of Guilford County. Please carry the list of needs to other organizations which you may belong to and solicit as much help and donations as you can. Do your part to help "bridge the gap" between our unit at Umstead and our community. Ward Needs: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 13. Radios 9. 10. Piano (1) Record player Green plants Pictures Records (all types) (5) Television sets Song books for group singing Window drapes (our unit is the only unit without drapes.') Aquarium and fish Ice cream freezers, popcorn poppers, grills table cloths. 11. Hair dryers 12. Art supplies and equipment:oil painting kit! paper, easels, canvas, etc. Recreational Needs: 1. Games & equipment:checker boards, chess sets, cribbage sets, playing cards(Rook & Bridge),baseballs & bats, volley balls & nets, ping-pong equipment, croquet sets, bingo sets, shuffle board equipment. Woodworking tools, hand or power operated Card tables Scrap leather and leather working tools, plastic Prizes of all sorts from 10c to $1 for parties. Bicycles All types of holiday decorations New or used typewriters for patients use. 2. 3. * 6. 7. 8. Patient needs: 1. Cosmetics-used or new 2. Stationary, stamps,greeting cards to send home. 3. Books or magazines(recent or subscription) 4. Clothing (used or new-male or female) 5. Home permanents 6. Electric razors for men or women 7. Soap and soap flakes 8. Toothbrushes,toothpaste,hair nets,hair rollers 9. Sewing materials:cloth,thread,kits,baskets "How To" books,patterns,crochet books,knitting needles,remnant material for scarves chair covers,pillowcases,etc.,yarn, embrod- iery floss. PRESIDENT'S NOTE: A note of good wishes to all auxiliary members has ,been received by your president from Mrs. Charles W. Banner and a contribution of $10.00 for the Auxiliary work. For Mrs. Banner's address, see above in ODDS AND ENDS. The Auxiliary to the Alamance-Caswell Medical Society will sponsor its fourth annual Antiques Fair on March 9,10, & 11 at the Elon College Gym. Doors open from 10:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. all three days. Light lunches and suppers will be served. Tickets may be secured at the door for $1.00, or $1.75 for a three day pass. Proceeds from this Fair go into a scholorship fund for prospective doctors, nurses, and medical tech. IMPORTANT REMINDER: Don't forget to take advantage of the lecture by Dr. Catherine Neal who is Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at John Hopkins. This lecture is sponsored by the Auxiliary and the Greensboro Heart Association. It will be held in the Gilmer Room of the First Presbyterian Church on Wed.,Feb. 23, 1966 at 10:30 a.m. Ht. Neal will speak on "Pediatric Problems of the Heart". ATTENTION: Please add to our grapevine. "Med-i-tations" is like the New York Times: anything that's fit to print.
