Dear Auxiliary Member,
At our September luncheon meeting, our Community Service Project report was
given and voted upon. We now feel that we need the wholehearted support of our
auxiliary to get it under way. For those of you who were not present we'd like
to give a short resume of our project thus far.
We are all aware of the alarming increase of the abuse of alcohol and
drugs among our youth. However, some of us may not be aware of the prevalence
of it in our city.
The Membership has recognized our function as an instrument of health
education in the community, and has decided to set up a program bureau, that
is, act as a sponsoring agent for programs dealing with the use of alcohol
and drugs especially among the young. We would provide updated materials
and appropriate speakers for the schools to use, as well as to sponsor awide-
spread educational program for small adult groups to help parents teach their
children more effectively about these subjects. Included in these programs
would be films, panel discussions, and question and answer periods.
We already have all the community support necessary for laying the groundwork of the programs. The tremendous interest and concern indicate the need for
immediate action. We hope that all of you will meet this need with enthusiasm
and if you are called on to serve on a committee you will respond eagerly.
If you are not contacted and wish to be a part of this very worth while project,
please feel free to call us. We have a job for everyone!
Sincerely yours,
Betty McCracken, Chairman
