Be it resolved that the Guilford County Medical Society
recognizes that because of her concern over the poor utilization of L. Richardson Memorial Hospital, the late Miss Dorothy
Benjamin Staff Writer for The Greensboro Record in 1969,
played an important role in the development of a Committee by
this Society to study and make recommendations to remedy this
hospital's predicament. This Committee, with Dr. Roy Clemmons
as its dedicated Chairman, recommended the development of a
psychiatric unit for the care of patients with acute mental
problems as a solution to the problem over which Miss Benjamin
felt genuine concern.
Be it further resolved, now that Miss Benjamin's hopes have
become a reality, that the Guilford County Medical Society urge
the Board of Trustees of The L. Richardson Memorial Hospital
to designate this facility as The Dorothy Benjamin Psychiatric
Unit. It is doubtful that, without her infuence and interest,
the officers of this Society would have displayed the boldness
and imagination necessary for instigating action which has resulted in this accomplishment.
