EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S REPORT
OPEN HOUSE HELD
A highlight of Hospice's Open House on Sunday, September 29 was a visit
from Katie, a friend of Hospice, who attends Kindergarten at the First
Presbyterian Church next door. She became familiar with the Hospice Program when a relative in another city needed Hospice services. So, she
brought us a pumpkin to welcome us to our new home.
Nearly two hundred friends and well-wishers dropped by to visit our new
offices at 706 N. Greene St. Everyone seemed delighted with our new
"home", which belongs to the First Presbyterian Chruch. The church, a
longtime suppdrter of Hospice at Greensboro, has made the house available
for our use. In lieu of rent, we have renovated the two story (former A.
W. McAlister) home.
After an article appeared in the newspaper on August 2 8 about our move, I
received a special letter from Adelaide Gant Karpf who lives in Jackson
Heights, N.Y. She provided me with the home's early history. The house
was built by her father, Mr. Gant, in 1915. She explained, "In the spring
my mother used to plant red tulips and blue phlox in a border around the
shrubbery in front of the house and folks passing by on their way to and
from church would remark how beautiful they were." She sent Hospice a
check for the restoration of those flower beds. We already have a committee of volunteers working on that project. We were also told of a
goldfish pond which used to be in the back yard. Mrs. Karpf expressed
pleasure that Hospice is now using the home she was born in.
The staff and volunteers at Hospice certainly feel blessed with our new
home. If you missed the Open House, feel free to drop by an visit us
anytime.

1987 MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
November is National Hospice Month.
The time-honored tradition (begun last
year) of Hospice at Greensboro is that
we conduct our annual membership renewal campaign during this month. Our
organization is continuing to grow and
to expand our services in response to
real and growing needs in our community. We need for all of our members
to renew their memberships -- and we
hope you will consider increasing your
level of support. Most important
though, renew your membership in November and remain a part of what Hospice does for terminally ill people in
Greensboro.
