Certificate of Need for a freestanding ambulatory surgery center has been received by Moses Cone Hospital from the State of North Carolina. Appeals against this approval, which was initially granted in July 1986, have been dropped. The hospital expects to begin construction on this project in June 1987. Architects for the project, The Cromwell Firm, Memphis, Tennessee, are completing working drawings and contract docu ments. Following final review by the State, a contractor will be selected. The ambulatory surgery center will be located on a site just north of the Family Practice Center on North Church Street. It will contain three operating rooms initially, and will function as a freestanding facility. The hospital anticipates that construction of the center will be completed by April 1988. First Gamefield Installation Students from Union Hill Elementary School in High Point demonstrate the new Gamefield equipment located on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University at a dedication ceremony held on April 8. This was the first installation of 10 Gamefields which will be located in Guilford County. Moses Cone Hospital is the regional sponsor of the National Fitness Campaign, and the Gamefields are being installed as part of this effort. Other Gamefield sites will be Ferndale Middle School, High Point; Laughlin Primary School, Summerfield; Union Hill Elementary School, High Point; Florence Elementary School, High Point; Pleasant Garden Elementary School, Pleasant Garden; Stokesdale Elementary School, Stokesdale; and Wheelchair Sports Courses will be located at The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Center; Jamestown Elementary School and Gateway Education Center. Pins were presented by Hospital President Dennis R. Barry, Executive Vice President James W. Albright, James Brexler and David McCombs, Vice Presidents of Support Service, and Vice President of Human Resources Jim Pfohl at a celebration held on Washington April 2. Honorees and their spouses or guests were invited to the Greensboro Sheraton for dinner and entertainment. Employees with 25 and 30 years of service received additional gifts. Employees celebrating 30 years of Service are Theodore Barden, Radiology Services; Maxine B. Davis and Arnell D. Wright, Nutritional Services; Gladys M. Hancock, Communications; Gladys N. Moore, Family Practice Wright Center; Beatrice W. Paschal, Nursing Department retiree; Joshua Washington, Facilities Management, and Edward L. Smith, Purchasing Department. Eleven employees received 25-year awards; 21 employees celebrated 20-year anniversaries; 15-year pins were given to 25 employees; 39 employees received 10-year pins; and five-year pins were given to 125 employees. ^Q^f o/ Hospice at Qreensboro The Moses H.
