Information and Guidelines for Use
LIFE FLIGHT is an emergency service providing helicopter transport for critically ill or injured
patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The helicopter is based at Duke University Hospital. Operating within 150 air miles of Durham, LIFE FLIGHT is
available to transport patients from a hospital or the
scene of an accident to Duke University Hospital or to
another tertiary care center selected to receive helicoptered patients. Whenever possible, LIFE FLIGHT
will be airborne within five minutes of your call.
LIFE FLIGHT is designed to complement and
support ground ambulance services. When time or
the quality of transportation is crucial to a patient's
survival or outcome, when road or weather conditions
slow or halt ground transportation, when immediate
transfer to tertiary care is essential, or when additional clinical skills or equipment are required to care
for the patient en route, call LIFE FLIGHT.
