Vol. IV, NO. 2 GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA MAY-JUNE, 1969 Hospital Volunteers Honored At May Appreciation Luncheon AUXILIARY LUNCHEON HEAD TABLE Left to right: Auxiliary Vice President Mrs. Thomas Hudson; Director Harold L. Taylor. The Board of Trustees of the hospital saluted the hospital's volunteer workers at a luncheon at Sedge- field Manor May 21. During the program, Mrs. Lewis Morris was recognized as "Volunteer of the Year" with Mrs. George T. Cunningham in the runner-up position. Paying tribute to all the women, Mr. Benjamin Cone, president of the board of trustees, cited the hours the women have given and their projects. He also told of their work in implementing the visitor program two years ago. Since 1953 the volunteers have donated $44,000 for nursing fees for service patients and given over $12,- 000 for scholarships. In the last seven years their hours have been equal to nine full-time employees working a 52-week year each year. Mrs. Morris received the award in recognition of having given the highest number of volunteer hours this past year. Her primary work is in the recovery room but she has also served on the Woman's Auxiliary board for 11 years, was instrumental in beginning the gift shop and has worked in the soda shop — both Auxiliary projects. This year she is also co-chairman of the recovery room volunteers. Mrs. Cunningham received recognition for her hours which were given both on the maternity floor and serving as chairman of the Adult Services committee, a group which orients all new adult volunteers. V. Gregg Watters, assistant director, was master of ceremonies. During his remarks, he paid tribute to Mrs. Robert H. Burton, president of the Auxiliary, and presented her a corsage. Miss Sharpe Named Record Dept. Head Miss Barbara Sharpe is taking over as head of the Medical Record Department of Moses Cone Hospital June 2. She succeeds Mrs. Phyllis Sykes who was with the hospital 14 years and chief librarian for the last 10 years of that time. Miss Sharpe is a native of Greensboro and will be returning to her home town from Concord where she has been Medical Record Librarian at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital for the past 10 years. She is a graduate of Greensboro Mrs. R. B. Taylor Elected Trustee Officers of the hospital's Board of Trustees were named and a new trustee appointed at the annual meeting of the group May 7 in the Board Room. Mr. Benjamin Cone was renamed President of the Board and Mrs. Britt M. Armfield was named Vice President, succeeding Roger Mc- Duffie. Mrs. Robert B. Taylor was appointed a trustee replacing Mrs. Julius Cone who retired after serving since 1947. Other officers elected were Harold L Bettis, secretary; Howard Holder- ness, treasurer; V. Gregg Watters, assistant secretary; and Thomas F. Williams, assistant treasurer. Serving on the Board will be Mrs. Armfield, Dr. Claud Bowen, Caesar Cone, Mrs. Taylor, N. P. Hayes, Holdemess, Dr. Isaac Taylor of Chapel Hill, Herman Cone, Jr., R. D. Douglas, Jr., Joseph T. Martin, Roy C. Millikan, Roger McDuffie, Charles A. McLendon and C. M. Vanstory, Jr. The executive committee is composed of Mrs. Armfield, Benjamin Cone, Herman Cone, Jr., Holderness, McDuffie, McLendon and Vanstory. Serving on a new joint conference committee with the medical staff are Mrs. Armfield, Hayes, Millikan and Benjamin Cone. Mrs. Taylor has served the hospital before as president of the Woman's Auxiliary; is immediate past president of the national alumnae association of Randolph- Macon College; and has been a leader in numerous church and civic activities in the city. Senior High School; of Lees McRae College, Banner Elk; and of the School of Medical Record Science, N. C. Baptist Hospital, Winston- Salem. She holds membership in the North Carolina and American Associations of Medical Record Librarians.
