MOSES CONE HOSPITAL REVIEW Vol. VIM, No. 4 Moses Cone Hospital REVIEW January-February, 1974 Moses Cone Hospital... 21 Years of Service Mr. Bettis gives 5-year service pin to Mrs. Betty Wagoner. Five, ten, fifteen and twenty year employees of the hospital and their guests arrived at the Holiday Inn Four Seasons, Wednesday evening, February 20th for the Hospital's 21st Anniversary and Employee Service Award Banquet. The Board of Trustees honored 117 employees with dinner and service pins in appreciation for their years of service with the hospital. Assistant Director Gregg Watters presided as Master of Ceremonies. The group was addressed by Dr. Rod Buie, a member of the Board. Dr. Buie spoke of the frustrations hospital employees must deal with and the need to say thank you to those who make a continuous effort to insure excellence in patient care. Dr. Buie described Moses Cone Hospital as an "outstanding and great" hospital; one of "excellent in all departments and services." He also added the Medical Staff's appreciation to the Trustees for fulfilling their requests for equipment and other needs so willingly and graciously through the years. Mr. Harold L. Bettis, Director, presented service awards to each of the 117 employees. Trustees also were recognized for their service to the hospital and were presented potted red tulips. The Dr. Buie Trustees and their respective years of service are as follows. Mr. Howard Holderness, 39 yrs.; Mr. Ceasar Cpne, 30 yrs.; Mr. Benjamin Cone, 27 yrs.; Dr. Claud Bowen, 19 yrs.; Mrs. Jane Armfield, 13 yrs.; Mr. N. P. Hayes and Mr. Herman Cone, Jr., 9 yrs. each; Mr. Charles McLendon, 7 yrs.; Mrs. Robert Taylor, 5 yrs.; Mr. Ed Lucas and Mr. Alan Cone, 4 yrs. each; Mrs. Lewis Morris and Dr. E. P. Benbow, Jr., 3 yrs. each; and Dr. Rod Buie with 1 year. DR. GARRETT CHIEF OF MEDICAL SERVICE Dr. Norman H. Garrett has been appointed by the Board of Trustees as Chief of Medical Service for a three year term beginning July 1, 1974. He succeeds Dr. Leonard J. Rabold who has served in this important office for the past six years. Dr. Garrett was born in Mount Kisco, New York.
