MOSES CONE HOSPITAL REVIE Vol. I No. 5 GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA November, 1966 Our United Fund Drive Completed by S. Frank Johnson, Personnel Director The 1966 United Fund was successfully completed on October 21, 1966. We feel that congratulations are in order for the fine participation of Moses Cone Hospital employees. Volunteer Luncheon Held Although the overall participation of the hospital was only 83%, total contributions amounted to $6,602.56. The average donation was $10.28 per contributor. The United Fund had asked us to try for a goal of $6,287.00 1595 more than we contributed year. Fven though 17% of our employees did not contribute, those who pledged enabled us to exceed the amount requested by 5%. Our special thanks go to those de- partments whose participation was 100'; . Congratulations to all of you v. ho contributed for the tine community spirit you have shown by giving to these worthy charities. Mrs. Ernest Hoffbauer was recognized as "volunteer of the year" at the annual volunteer appreciation luncheon sponsored by the hospital on October 28. Mrs. P. L. Walker, "volunteer of the year" for 1965, was commended for her many hours of service during the past year. Mrs. Richard Steele, auxiliary president, announced that five-year pins were earned by Mesdames Milton Chamblcc, J. Q. Seawell, Ir., B. F. Mohring and Ruth Mullis. In all, the volunteers, Candystripers and Pilots contributed 19,826 hours of service to the hospital during the past year. Mrs. Claude Pierce, Jr. retiring president, was presented a gold charm bracelet with an engraved disc for her contributions to the auxiliary. Dr. W. W. McLendon, associate pathologist, spoke on the past, present and future developments of the hospital. The new president of the Auxiliary, Mrs. Richard Steele, is a native of Richmond, Virginia and a graduate of Smith College. She is the mother of two sons and a daughter. Mr. Steele is engaged in the manufacture of sport clothes with the Salem Co., Inc. of Winston-Salem. Mrs. Steele was co-chairman of the women's division of the United Fund this year and is on the Board of Directors of the Weatherspoon Gallery and Family Service Agency. At the present time, one of Mrs. Steele's favroite projects is her volunteer work with the English laboratory composition program in the public schools. Other new officers of the board are: Mrs. Curtis Laughlin, vice-president; Mrs. Sidney Stern, Jr., secretary; and Mrs. James Worrell, treasurer. Each of these ladies is active in civic and community affairs. We are grateful for their time and interest in Moses Cone Hospital.
