Vol. I No. II MOSES CONE HOSPITAL GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA May, 1966 PAS-MAP Program Moses Cone Hospital has taken another step toward the computer age in hospital administration. We have become a subscriber to the services provided by the Commission on Professional and Hospital Activities, a non-profit, educational and scientific research organization located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. A modern system of access to information in the hospital's clinical records is provided by the two major programs of the Commission. The Professional Activity Study (PAS) and the Medical Audit Program (MAP) will provide an index of quality and intity of medical care. Hospitals all the country are subscribing to service with an estimated 16% ill general hospitals already mem- of the Commission. Upon discharge of a patient, a Med- Rccord Librarian, abstracts the patient's record onto a case abstract form designed to include up to 61 categories of information. These forms include information on the patient's diagnosis, operation, investigative pro- ires, length of stay, and other im- tant facts. The abstracts are sent (Continued on Page 3) UNC-G nursing students gather in seminars from 11-12 o'clock while in the hospital. 31 UNC-G Students To Graduate 31 senior nursing students will go through graduation exercises on June 5, 1966 with the rest of the Senior Class at UNC-G. On June 29 and 30, they will take their State Boards in Raleigh. In 1965, 88% of the students passed their Boards so the prognosis looks good. This graduating class is the next to last class which will graduate in the Miss Juanita Teal, R.N., instructs Katie Olive (Right) while Ruth Evans answers the telephone on Division 5500. two-year curriculum. Beginning in September, students will be accepted for a four-year curriculum. The Admissions Office at UNC-G is planning to accept 45 freshmen Nursing students. The graduating class represents 20 different North Carolina cities. Only two of the students are from out of state. One is from Millwood, W. Va., the other from Williston, S. C. After graduation, sixteen of the seniors plan to work at Moses Cone Hospital; ten others will work in other North Carolina hospitals, one will go to S. C, one to W. Va., one to Alabama and two to N. Y. One student is planning to enter Anesthesia School at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. Five members of the class of 1966 are already married. Seven other graduates are planning to marry this summer. During their first year, the girls spend one day a week in the hospital and the rest of the time is spent in class at UNC-G. In their second year, the students are in the hospital getting practical experience three days a week (Continued on Page 7)
