Wesley Long Community Hospital's MEDICAL RECORD August 15, 1977 Vol. I So. 1 According to Dr. Ron Joyner, Chief of Emergency Services, the Emergency Room has assumed department status with Glenda Medders as the department head of the Emergency Department. ft new physician information packet is available to all incoming physicians and can be picked up in the Public Affairs Department. Surgical Outpatient Department to be ready in September will be under the nursing supervision of Kay Schlosser, R.N. All physicians should have received the physician-patient relationship data. Anyone who has not, may pick one up in the administrative secretary's office. All members of the Medical Staff should have received the guidelines of protocol set forth by the Infection Control Committee. For extra copies, see Sarah Hester, I.e. Nurse. Hemodialysis is now available for patients of Wesley Long. Consideration for hemodialysis will be handled through Dr. Olin and Dr. Garber. This service is be- in} of fered by Wesley Long and staffed by nurses from the dialysis service in Greensboro. Dr. Prank Sanderson, Radiologist from Stanford University Medical Center, recently joined Wesley Long Hospital's staff of Radiologist, July 6. Medical Board Actions Regarding the presence of fathers in the Operating Room during C-sections, it was decided by the Medical Board that no non-professional people be allowed in the Operating Room without prior approval of the Chief of Surgery or the Chief of OB-GYN. Chloromycetin, Tobramycin, and Gentamicin, are to be used only when specifically indicated by culture results and any other use of these drugs is to be justified on the patient's record by the physician ordering them. Issues now being considered by the Medical Board; 1. need for telemetry to free cardiac beds, 2. should respiratory therapist be allowed to intubate patients in life threatening emergencies when anesthesia personnel not present, 3. the pulmonary rehabilitation program, 4, smoking policy for patients The purchase of a compression hip screw apparatus has been approved. As IV Team has been approved by the Board and will be functioning by mid-August. The Medical Board has accepted resignations from: Dr. Ben Fortune; Dr. Roy Harvey; Dr. C.
