First Quarter 1995 1887 OLDNOi I Presidents Notes I There have been many contributions toward our urogram of maintaining minority representation in all areas of Health Care Reform and Delivery over the winter months. Final recommendations of the North Carolina Health Planning Commission were drafted on 12/21/94. These recommendations are expected to be considered for legislative action by the 1995 General Assembly. We are proud to list the Old North Stale Medical Society (ONSM) members that have served and the committee on which they served: Lillian Home - QeByery Systems. Joseph Gordon and Jonathan Weston - Eligibility and Enrollment. Jesse WMrams - Heath Promotion. Disease Prevention, and the Rote Of Pubic Heath, Eric Buffong - Insurance Reform. Otis Michael - Quality Control. Melvin T. Pinn, Jr.. Rural and Urban Unaerservea Areas, William B. Olds - Special Populations. Copies of the recommendations may be requested from the North Carolina Medical Society by eating Lucy Gross at 1-800- 722- 1350. The Old North State Dental and Medical Societies 1995 Conjoint Planning committee met at Kingston Raddison Resort. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina 1/28/95. This site has Been expanded to accommodate our June 22. 1995 - June 25, 1995 Annual Convention. The Old North State Dental Society is the host and the theme is f THE AFRICAN Gladstone Wesley Allen, M. 0. Post Office Box 552. Fayettevie, North Carolina 28301 passed recently. Or. Allen has served as President of ONSM and was active until his retirement, George Debnam and Jesse WMiam's coordinated the ONSM response at the funeral. (continued page 2) "â– Linking past with the present for the future " . We bring together all the scattered parts of our heritage that enables us to be who we are today. Storytelling, dance and artistic presentations reminiscent of days in our history win echo through all the convention. Plans are underway for the 1995 ONSMS convention tor June 22, through June 25, in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Managed care, aids and advances in all areas of medicine will be presented in a educational format. Wait!! Don! forget lo pack your running shoes, golf clubs and formal wear. The sports program 15 full of opportunities to exercise and have fun. TREASURERS "NOlrES Hello !! The Leadership of Old North Stale Medical Society is looking forward to another record year of paid membership in 1995 We need financial participation more than ever since some donations we've traditionally receroed are no longer granted, Last year our membership increased by 20%, but our expenses by 17% . We must get farther ahead. This should be an exciting year. A planning committee is busily creating another exciting convention, and the Old North State Meotcal Society Executive Committee is working on plans that wi propel a viable organization Mo the next Talw the time to send in your dues for 1995. Remember, membership dues are the backbone of the organization. As our dues grow, so does the impact of our Medical Society. Steve McKinnon. MO ptorsNotej Greetings to a New Year! I nope your holidays were joyful ai you looking for a prosperous new year. I extend my greatest appreciation to Ms. Valeria Campbell, the Old north State Medical Society's (ONSMS) previous and first administrative assistant, for all the support and effort she gave us before her recent departure to another position. She was very instrumental in getting our Newsletter started which was a first. Let us ad wish Valerta well in her future endeavors. Mrs. Marie Weilman is our extend her your fullest support. She wiH be assisting us in all the activities of the ONSM and most of all looking forward to hearing from you for suggestions to improve our society and this newsletter. We need your input. We are currently in the planning stages for our annual meeting, if you have suggestions, please let us know. We will forward them to our Planning Committee. If we cannot implement them this year, we will have them for next year. Please share our newsletter with colleagues that are not actively involved with our organization. We are trying to develop an organization that works for us and our patients. Please encourage other to become members. Provide them with a copy of he membership form enclosed with our newsletter and encourage them to become members. Only through strength can we guarantee the independent survival of our practices.
