Consultants Join PHP Team Frank Mascia, CEO, has announced the selection of two professional consultants. Dr. Richard J. Rosen, a Greensboro physician since 1965, will serve as Medical Director. Dr. Rosen practices primary care internal medicine with a subspecialty in hematology and oncology. As the Medical Director, Dr. Rosen will serve as the liason between the medical community and the Plan and will be an ex-officio member of all committees, including the Board. In addition, he will work with the Medica! Services Department and the Underwriting Department. Steven Saxe will serve as the Pharmacy Consultant to the Plan. Saxe is a graduate of Washington State University and came to Greensboro in 1977 to serve a one year residency in hospital pharmacy at Moses Cone Hospital. He is a staff pharmacist at Moses Cone Hospital. As Pharmacy Consultant, Saxe wilt be assisting in developing the Formulary, working closely with the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and advising the Medical Services Director. He will provide technical expertise as the liason between the Plan and participating pharr PHP Scorecard As of November 15th Enrolled Members 4,091 Physician Providers 375 Pharmacy Providers 82 The Chairman's Corner Marketing Update Dear PHP Physician, The successful operation of our Plan depends on your following certain procedures. These procedures relate to: • precertification of hospital admissions and out-patient surgery • mental health referrals • referrals to non-participating specialists/faci lities • extension of hospitalization without medical j unification To date, PHP has been lenient in enforcing the policies in order to give physicians a chance to get accustomed to the system. However, with our membership increasing and Plan utilization increasing, the guidelines adopted by the Board of Directors will be enforced. Please review the procedures and the accompanying penalties for failure to comply with the Board policies. Encourage your office staffs to review the Physicians Administrative Manual and call ihe office if you have questions. We appreciate your understanding and compliance. Sincerely, W. Rogers, Inc. • CibaGeigy ■ Piedmont Furniture Craftsmen • Canter of Greensboro • Watts Enterprises • Network Infiii-miilion Services • Carolina Extruded Plastics • Tarheel Paper & Supply Co. • Williamson Heating & Cooling Enrollment figures are exceeding projections — a great situation! However, we are experiencing a temporary backlog in the Claims Department. Additional staff is being hired and by the first of the year, claims checks will be written twice a month rather than once a month.
