Greensboro Hospital VTFWPQint December1989 GREENSBORO HOSPITAL: Looking Toward The 90's BY: DENNIS BARRY PRESIDENT T, his month marks a significant transition. It is the end of one year and the beginning of another. Moreover, it is the end of the 1980's and the beginning of a new decade. As we leave 1989, we wish Jim Brexler well in his new position in Baton Rouge. He has been a valuable member of our team for almost 10 years and has led Greensboro Hospital for the last year and a half. We will miss his many contributions to this organization. During 1989, we have successfully blended two very diverse organizations. Through this process we have come to know each other, and we have learned from each other. We have combined our best traits to make Greensboro Hospital an effective institution and a base from which we can build for the future together. Today, Greensboro Hospital is in good hands. I continue to be impressed with each of you, the departmental managers, supervisors and employees of Greensboro Hospital. You represent the best team a hospital could have to carry it into the 1990's. I have tremendous confidence in you ability to ensure strong operations in the coming weeks and months. We enter 1990 full of hopes and excitement about what lies ahead. I am confident about our future and the promise it holds for each of us. Our immediate goals will be: •To hire a new Executive Vice President. We have retained a search firm, Heidrick & Struggles, to assist us in this process. By mid-January we should have a group of candidates to screen and, soon after, we will initiate the interview process. • To maintain an active and viable operation at Greensboro Hospital as a medical/surgical hospital. •To complete the planning process and implement a program plan for transition to the women's hospital. In this regard, the planning process is underway. A great deal of work has been done, but much is left to be completed. This new year gives us the chance to rededicate ourselves and to move forward with the planning and implementation process. Plans are beginning to shape up so that we can begin to share specific information on the planning process and the future we are collectively molding. I know there is concern about the future and what it holds for each of us as individual employees. None of us can completely and accurately forecast the future or say specifically what it will look like. What is certain is that the future women's hospital will represent the very best we can produce and will be an outstanding success in its service to this community. As I have said before, each and every employee of Greensboro Hospital is a member of our team, and there is a place for everyone in this organization. The process of designing our future is being done by a combined group of both Greensboro and Moses Cone Hospital employees. I invite you to participate enthusiastically in this process. For me the new year and this transition represents the chance to get to know each of you better. I will be (Continued on pg. 4) E$P Program Pays Off! Bennie suggested that the hospital use Zinc Air batteries in biomedical equipment instead of the batteries currently being used. The Zinc Air batteries last twice as long as the present batteries. It is projected that Bennie's suggestion will result in a cost savings at Greensboro Hospital and Moses Cone Hospital of $9,939.52. Bennie will receive a total of $993.95 — 10% of the award now and the remainder in six months after his suggestion is implemented. Way to go Bennie! The Employee Suggestion Program Committee needs your suggestions! Employees can pick up and return completed Employee Suggestion Program forms in the Personnel Office.
