Greensboro Hospital VTFWPQint Executive NOTES Although summer has traditionally been a slower time for activity on our campus, this summer appears to be changing tradition. We are experiencing continued increases in volume of surgery, emergency and most ancillary services. Lavonne Beach and I have visited a large number of the physician offices who either have been or potentially could be users of this campus. Based on their positive reaction to what we are doing, I expect our growth trend to continue throughout this next year. There has been no summer slowdown when it comes to planning for the women's and infants' hospital! Construction documents are being prepared and our attention is turning from facilities to programs. We will be moving along with the help of several task forces, some of which have already begun meeting. We will continue to keep you posted as planning for the new hospital progresses. We will be publishing another issue of "Building for a Healthy Future" in the next couple of weeks, and we will be able to give you further details about the task forces' efforts. We are also beginning the exciting process of naming the new women's and infants' hospital, and we need your help! In this issue of the Viewpoint, you will see instructions for submitting suggestions for the new name. Give us your creative ideas! The Board of Trustees will be considering the name issue in October. Soon we will be hearing the sounds of renovation work. Currently, plans call for the work to begin in September. We will all need to work together to make the necessary adjustments as the work gets underway. Hopefully, we have coordinated the renovation effort so that it will cause minimum inconvenience and interruption to your work. Thanks to all of you for your superb participation in the Employee Opinion Survey. About 90% of you completed surveys. We will be sharing the results of the survey with you toward the end of this month. As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions about any issue that concerns or interests you. Please forward them to my office. Thanks! ]uly 1989 HOSPITAL EMPLOYEE COUNC Off To A Good Start The Greensboro Hospital Employee Council began meeting in March and conducts regular meetings on the second Wednesday of every month at 1:00 pm. The council is comprised of one representative and one alternate chosen from each department from among non-management and non-supervisory employees. The representative serves a one-year term, after which the alternate assumes the role of representative for that department. The Employee Council serves to enhance communication between employees and management by sharing important information and discussing issues of concern on a regular basis. This provides an effective format for making necessary suggestions. The Employee Council Committees that are instrumental in helping maintain this communication are: Benefits Committee, Food Committee, MembershipCommittee, and Communications Committee. Employee Council also plans and coordinates recreational activities and social events. The committees which are responsible for the organizational framework of these activities are: Sports Committee, Social Committee, and the Employee Recognition and Service Awards Banquet Committee. Although still in its early stages of development, our Employee Council is quickly becoming a vital re- sourceforall employees. Getting our Council off to a good start are the new officers who were elected in April. They are: Lora Mae Shaw, Chairperson, Kim Aheron, Vice Chairperson, and Kathy Jarman, Secretary. HELP WE WANT YOUR SUGGESTIONS WE ARE BEGINNING THE PROCESS OF NAMING THE WOMEN'S AND INFANTS* HOSPITAL, AND WE NEED YOUR IDEAS! You may use the form below or just jot down your ideas on a 3 x 5 index card and send them to Jim Brexler in the Executive Office. We are hoping to have a name selected this fall. Thanks for your creative thinking!! Suggested names for the Women's and Infants' Hospital Your name (optional) Department J
