/V^ ^\ Greensboro Hospital I VlEWPfflSl May 1989 Executive NOTES by Jim Brexler Executive Vice President True to form, March came in like a lion and went out likea lamb, at least as far as activity on our campus is concerned. After an extremely high February census, the first three weeks of March were equally as strong. However, during the Easter vacation, census and corresponding activity on our campus significantly diminished. Consequently, the revenue for March was not as good as we wou Id have hoped. However, I am encouraged by the fact that ou r expenses were kept under control. Early activity in April would indicatethatweare returningto full utilization of ourcampus, and I feel good about our current situation. On the planning front, we have completed the design development process for our women's and infants' hospital, and during April briefings have been scheduled both here and at Moses Cone Hospital to updateall employees on thecurrentstatusof our plans. In the coming months, our attention will change from a focus on facility design to a focus on program planning as we get ready to grapple with the transitional issues we must face next year. I am awareof everyone's interest in this process of change, and we will do everything we can to keep you fully informed of the changes as they are being planned and implemented. One other activity I would like to call your attention to our Employee Opinion Survey that will occur in late April. This survey is, in fact, a repeat of a similar survey conducted approximately five years ago at Moses Cone Hospital, and this year is being extended to employees on both campuses. The survey is being administered by an expert in the field, Hay Consultants, and is designed to seek your honest opinion about various aspects of your employment. I strongly encourage each and every one of you to take advantage of this opportunity to shareyour concerns and ideas. The results of the su rvey are strictly confidential, but at the same time, will provide information to assist us in improving the working environment for all of us. I'd like to close this month's column with a special "thank you" to our volunteers who this month celebrated National Volunteer Week. Their countless hours of dedicated service are certainly most appreciated by Hospital staff, patients, and visitors. Employee Opinion Survey: You Can Make a Difference! An Employee Opinion Survey will be offered to all employees of Greensboro Hospital and Moses Cone Hospital during the last week in April. The survey will be conducted by an outsideconsultant, Hay Associates, in order to maintain confidentiality for our employees. Hay will format the questions, administer the survey and compile a report of the results. No one but the Hay Associates will have access to the actual surveys. The primary objective for the Employee Opinion Survey is to have a comprehensive report of The Moses H. Cone Group of Health Care Services strengths and areas of concern as perceived by employees. An Employee Opinion Survey was conducted at Moses Cone Hospital in 1984 and as a result of the employees concern, a new evaluation procedure and'form was created. All employees are urged to participate inthe survey and department heads are asked to provide the opportunity for employees to attend the sessions with Hay Associates. Please take the opportunity to participate in the survey... you can make a difference. Becky Hunnicutt Come fill out an employee survey during one of these sessions: Mon. April 24 Wed. April 26 Fri.
