Greensboro Hospital VIEWED February 1989 EXECUTIVE NOTES by )im Brexler Executive Vice President It seems that as slowly as January began, it has ended with a corresponding fury. In the last week of January, we set records for this year of inpatient census. All aspects of our operation have experienced increases in activity. The new Progressive Care Unit has provided a welcome addition to the programming on our campus. Additionally, the OPTIFAST Program, under the direction of Lyn Richardson, has doubled its projected start and is initiating seven classes from our first round of orientations. While it is exciting to experience high levels of activity on this campus, it is also very stressful to gear up and gear down at a moment's notice. I very much appreciate the responsiveness each of the departments has exhibited as we have undergone these volatile, fluctuating times. During times of high activity, it is extremely easy to lose patience and not practice caring guest relations. Under the leadership of Anita Hyman, our guest relations program is initiating a number of activities to help us remember to relate to our patients, families and colleagues in a positive and supportive way. Rememberweare best known for our personal, caring attitude. I want to thank those of you (over 150 of you in all) who returned the letters of concern over the Medicare Program. Mr. Barry took those letters combi ned with Moses Cone Hospital's letters to Washington and presented them to our legislators. Changes can only come if our concerns are expressed! On February 23, 1989, we will be recognizing those individuals who have served this campus for five and ten years, respectively. I would like to add my personal thanks to the 8 five- year and 19 ten-year employees who have so faithfully served the patients and families of this community. Your caring and service are the heart of Greensboro Hospital. + + Honoring Employ Commitment THIRTY-TWO GREENSBORO HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES will be recognized at the Annual Employee Recognition and Service Awards Banquet to be held at the Greensboro Sheraton Hotel on Thursday, February 23rd at 6:30 pm. The Employee Suggestion Program (ESP) has added a new and exciti ng idea to its agenda for 1989. In the past, the Employee Suggestion Program has focused on suggestions from employees that resulted in a cost savings for the hospital. To kick- off a new year, the Employee Suggestion Program is expanding its focus to incorporate suggestions that not only save the hospital money, but also focus on job efficiency and quality. Suggestions might include: • ways of improving efficiency • ways of improving department morale • ways of improving the quality of patient care Suggestions like these will make Greensboro Hospital a better provider of care and an even nicer place to work! Rewards will be given to employees who make suggestions that are approved and implemented. The ESP committee is working to make sure all suggestions are reviewed, and rewards given, in a timely manner. Please help us increase participation in this important and innovative program. The suggestion box in the cafeteria has been removed temporarily so that we may revise its purpose. However, it will be returned and will be available for your suggestions shortly. Additional information about the Employee Suggestion Program and its revised policies will be provided to all employees. Remember, YOU can make Greensboro Hospital an even better place to be!
