. She was the
first
woman
in the
country
to
serve
as a
director
of
employee
and
labor
relations
at the
Greensboro
post
office
.
Between
1984
and
1991
she
served
as the
first
female
acting
postmaster
in
Burlington
and
Winston-Salem
. She was
named
Greensboro's
first
female
postmaster
in
1992
. She
retired
from the
Postal
Service
in
June
2004
.
Mixon
was
awarded
the
Dorothy
Sharple
Lifetime
Achievement
Award
by the
United
States
Postal
Service
for her
community
service
, and her
efforts
in the
post
office
toward
increasing
diversity
within
the
postal
system
.
Throughout
her
career
in
Greensboro
, and
elsewhere
, she was
actively
involved
in
community
service
work
.
