Description	The 1969 UNCG yearbook, Pine Needles, depicts a growing African American presence on campus amid a continued awareness of social issues. This selection of pages gives a glimpse at race relations and civil rights issues on campus during the late-1960s. Candid photographs show a black entertainment on campus with performances by Clifford Curry, Stevie Wonder, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and the Shirelles; a black students speaking out and another serving as class officer; and the 1969 food service workers' strike which involved mostly African American employees and was supported by white students. Also included are sample pages of class portraits showing a representative black to white student ratio.
