Korean Student
At Guilford
During the opening days of the
Korean War when Seoul was about
to be captured by the advancing
North Korean armies, Sue Kytin
Suh ("Su"), the Korean student
now at Guilford, was forced to escape by swimming the river outside of the city which was in the
path of his escape. Later, after this
nightmarish experience, he enlisted in the South Korean army and
eventually acquired the rank of
captain. These events terminated
his studies that he had been carrying on at Seoul University, Seoul,
Korea, where he was in his fourth
year of engineering school.
Because of the difficulty in procuring a discharge, it was three
and one-half years before "Su"
could obtain even a temporary
discharge from the military to continue with his educational work.
Through his brother, who is living
in the States, he obtained information about educational institutions
in America, and more specifically
about Guilford College.
At Guilford "Su" has continued
in his engineering interests by taking advanced science courses
(Physics 31, Chemistry 21 and 23,
and Calculus 41). Though his fu-
